A replica Speedmaster Pro is a copy of the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. The case shape, dial layout, and bezel insert follow the original. The movement does not. The genuine Moonwatch ref 310.30.42.50.01.002 runs Omega caliber 3861: manual wind, column wheel, vertical clutch, Co-Axial escapement, 50 hours of power reserve. Most replicas use a Seagull ST19 or a modified Asian 7750. Neither movement comes from Omega.

Movement differences

The Seagull ST19 is a hand-wind column wheel chronograph at 21,600 vph with about 40 hours of reserve. It has no Co-Axial escapement and no METAS certificate. The Asian 7750 is an automatic chronograph. Its subdials sit at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock, so a Speedmaster copy built on that movement shows the wrong layout. The Moonwatch runs subdials at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. Case height is a second tell. A movement that sits tall pushes the case past 14 mm, against 13.2 mm on the original.

Dial, bezel, and caseback tells

The 2021 Moonwatch bezel uses a dot over 90 scale. Some replicas print the dot beside the 90. The hesalite version carries a step dial and an applied metal Omega logo. Replica dials use printed logos or flat dials with no step. Caseback engraving is another marker. Omega cuts the seahorse medallion and the reference number into the steel. Copies use shallow laser etching.

Legal status in the US
