Short answer

"Replica Speedmaster 329" is a seller label, not an Omega model name. Omega reference numbers that start with 329 include the Speedmaster Professional 3290.50.00: steel case, 42 mm, caliber 1861 hand-wound chronograph, hesalite crystal. A copy that carries "329" on the caseback copies the look. It does not share the movement, the case dimensions, or the parts.

  • "ETA 7750" — the 7750 is a 30 mm automatic movement, thicker than the 1861, so those cases sit deeper.
  • Seagull ST19 / ST1901 — a real hand-wound Chinese chronograph, column wheel, 21,600 vph. This movement sits in most working hand-wound copies.
  • Quartz. Subdials on these are printed or frozen.

Checks on a working chronograph

  1. Press the top pusher. The center chronograph seconds hand should start and sweep in steps.
  2. Press the bottom pusher. The hand should snap to 12 and stop.
  3. Watch the 3 o'clock subdial while the chronograph runs. It should advance.
  4. Look at the 9 o'clock subdial with the chronograph off. It should keep running. Frozen means the subdial is decorative.
  5. Listen. A 21,600 vph movement beats 6 times per second. A quartz copy ticks once per second.

Case and dial tells

Measure the case. Copies run 39 mm to 40 mm or 44 mm. The genuine Moonwatch is 42 mm. Check lug width: 20 mm. Check the tachymeter text and the position of the 90 marker. Check the logo and the dial font. Replica dials print text that is thinner or wider than the original.

Price

Working hand-wound chronograph copies sell for $200 to $500. Quartz copies sell for $40 to $120. Used genuine Speedmaster Professionals with the 1861 movement trade in the low thousands of dollars. A $100 price for a "Swiss 1861" claim does not match the claim.

Legal position in the US
