- Set a ceiling. Movement grade drives price more than any other part.
How to Evaluate One
- Measure the case. The original runs 41 mm wide and about 13 mm thick. Many copies run 42 to 43 mm and 14 mm or more, which crowds the dial and sits tall on the wrist.
- Hold the dial under a desk lamp. The smoked sapphire should carry an even tint edge to edge, with no cloudy patch and no orange-peel texture. The brand print and the applied markers should sit flat and sharp.
- Charge the lume with a UV light for ten seconds, then step into a dark room. The two date discs, the hands and the markers should glow at the same brightness and hold for 20 minutes or more. Thin coats die in two minutes.
- Watch the outsize date change. Both discs should sit on one plane, line up under the aperture, and flip within seconds after midnight. A date that drifts for an hour or sits crooked will bother you every day.
- Run the chronograph. Start, stop, then reset. The central hand should snap back to 12 with no bounce. The minute totalizer should step once per minute instead of creeping.
- Wind it about 30 to 40 turns, set it down, and time the run. An A7750-based build should give 38 to 45 hours. Anything far short points to a tired mainspring.
- Inspect the back. You want a sapphire display, a decorated balance cock or rotor, and visible striping or perlage. Flat, blank plates signal a base-grade movement.
- Check the crystal at an angle. Double-sided anti-reflective coating keeps the dial readable from the side. If it washes out, only one face is coated.
- Look over the strap and clasp. Stitching should be tight and the deployant should lock with a firm click. Spring bars are cheap to replace, so ask about them before the watch ships.
- Ask for a pressure test. Most replicas are splash resistant only, so keep them out of the pool and the shower.
Flaws No Replica Fixes
The genuine watch runs calibre L951.6, a hand-wound column-wheel chronograph with a flyback and an instant-jump minute counter. That mechanism is not reproduced, and neither is the platinum case or the factory depth rating. A listing that claims a true 1:1 movement is selling words, not parts.
