Answer first
The IW376028 sits in IWC's 2007 to 2010 Da Vinci chronograph generation. A replica of it is a third-party copy. It carries the same 43 mm steel case shape, the same two-register chronograph dial, and the same crown and pusher layout. No copy ships with an IWC caliber 89360. Sellers fit a Chinese 7750 clone, sometimes with a transfer module. Prices run from about $220 to $450 for a well-finished copy.
What the original reference is
IWC built this generation with reference numbers in the IW3760 and IW3764 blocks. The steel case measures 43 mm across and about 14 mm thick. Rose gold and white gold versions exist. The movement is the in-house caliber 89360, an automatic chronograph with a flyback function and a 68-hour power reserve. The chronograph totalizer at 12 o'clock counts hours and minutes with two hands. Running seconds sit at 6 o'clock. Dial details differ between references in this block. Confirm the date position and the subdial rings against owner photos of IW376028 before you order.
What replica makers copy
- Case: 43 mm steel, polished bezel, brushed lugs. Good batches measure 43.0 to 43.3 mm on a caliper.
- Dial: applied markers, twin registers, printed minute track.
- Crystal: sapphire. Cheaper batches use mineral glass.
- Case back: IWC used both solid and display backs in this generation. Check which one the reference has.
- Lug width: 22 mm on most 43 mm chronograph cases. Ask the seller to measure.
Movement inside a replica
A stock 7750 puts running seconds at 9 o'clock and the chronograph hour counter at 6. That does not match the Da Vinci layout. Makers solve this in two ways. Some add a transfer module to move the counters. Others leave the layout as is and print the dial to hide it. Ask for a video with the watch running. The ticking subdial should sit at 6, not at 9. A 7750 beats at 28,800 vph, which is the same rate as the 89360, so the sweep looks correct at a glance.
Checks before you pay
- Request a caliper photo of the case. Accept 43.0 to 43.3 mm.
- Request a video. Confirm which subdial ticks.
- Check the date font and the crown engraving.
- Ask about water resistance. Most copies are not pressure tested. Do not swim in one.
- Ask for a photo of the clasp or buckle and the strap stitching.
Price bands
Under $150: quartz or a low-grade 7750, mineral glass, misaligned markers. $200 to $300: 7750 clone, sapphire, clean dial print. $350 to $500: modified movement, better case finishing, closer dial color. Above $500 no copy of this reference justifies the price in most cases.
What no replica gets right
The 89360 has a flyback function and a 68-hour power reserve. A 7750 copy has neither, and its reserve is about 40 hours. The rotor, the balance bridge, and the movement engraving are wrong. The lug bevels and the bezel polish differ under a loupe. Servicing is a problem: many watchmakers will not touch a modified clone, and parts are not interchangeable with Swiss 7750 parts.
