Short answer
IW376039 does not appear in IWC's published Da Vinci reference lists. Da Vinci chronograph models from 2007 to 2017 use the IW3764xx range. The 2017 redesign uses IW3934xx. A watch with IW376039 stamped on the case back is a watch with a reference number that needs checking against IWC records before money changes hands. A wrong number is not proof of a fake. It is proof that the paperwork cannot be matched to the watch.
Movement
The Da Vinci Chronograph from 2007 to 2017 ran the IWC calibre 89360. It is a flyback chronograph with a 68-hour power reserve and a combined hour and minute totalizer at 12 o'clock. Small seconds sit at 6 o'clock. That gives two subdials.
Most counterfeits use a Valjoux 7750 or a Chinese copy of it. The 7750 has three registers at 12, 6 and 9. If you see three subdials on a Da Vinci listed as IW376039, the movement is not an 89360. Look at the rotor through the display back. IWC engraves "Probus Scafusia" and the caliber number.
Dial and hands
- Genuine applied indices have polished bevels on the edges. Stamped foil indices look flat.
- The date wheel font is thin and even. Counterfeit date wheels use a heavier block font.
- Sword hands on the 89360 have a satin-brushed top and polished sides.
- Printing under a loupe is crisp. Replica printing shows chipped serifs on the IWC script.
Case back
Reference numbers, case numbers and model names on genuine IWC case backs are laser-engraved with sharp edges and consistent depth. Acid-etched copies look shallow and grey. The case number and the reference number are two different numbers. Sellers who show only one should be asked for the other.
Price signals
Steel Da Vinci Chronographs from that period sell on the secondary market for roughly $4,000 to $6,500. Listings under $1,000 for a watch described as complete with box and papers do not match the market. That gap is a signal, not a verdict.
Paperwork
IWC warranty cards carry the reference, the case number and the date of sale. Compare all three against the watch. A card printed with IW376039 and a case back stamped IW3764xx is a mixed set.
What to ask
- Photos of the case back with the reference and case number readable.
- A photo of the movement rotor.
- The number of subdials on the dial.
- Serial and reference on the warranty card.
IWC can confirm a reference and case number by email. That step costs nothing and settles the question.
